Syrian regime-affiliated health sources confirmed that cancer cases rose to 7,000 during the first eight months of this year.
Ihab Al-Naqri, director of the General Authority of Al-Biruni Hospital in Damascus, said in a press statement that 7,000 new cancer cases were recorded from the beginning of the year until the end of August.
Al-Naqri added that the hospital also conducted 341,000 laboratory tests and 47,000 chemotherapy doses this year. He also noted that 13,000 cases are receiving outpatient treatment with pills, in addition to 74,000 radiotherapy sessions at the hospital.
He noted that there is a shortage of some doses, which are being secured through the Foreign Trade Foundation.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer, affiliated with the World Health Organization, stated in its September 2018 report that Syria ranks fifth among West Asian countries in the number of cancer cases relative to its population.
