Russian newspaper: Washington cannot coerze the Syrian opposition.

Moskovsky Komsomolets daily discussed the execution of the latest Russian-American deal, pointing out that Syrian factions connected to the Americans refuse to pay attention to their sponsors.

It is well known that on September 10th Russia and the United States came to an agreement proclaiming a truce in Syria. The deal states that the Syrian army will “not touch” the opposition and will relieve the siege on the regions under its authority.

The US guaranteed, first, that the opposition would stop attacking Syrian troops and would “maintain a distance” from ISIS and the al-Nusra Front. Originally, it pledged a seven-day ceasefire.

The newspaper sought military expert Viktor Murakhovsky regarding the feasibility of such accords, how the United States would differentiate “moderates” from “immoderates”, and whether Washington had reasonable means of exerting pressure on her “followers.”

According to Murakhovsky, the ceasefire agreement between Russia and the United States marks a significant diplomatic turning point for the US. On paper, of course, everything is perfect, especially given both sides agree to apply pressure on the opposing forces and conduct combined strikes against ISIS. Under Russian pressure, Syrian forces are following the deal, something that cannot be claimed of the “moderate” opposition under American supervision.

According to objective monitoring by the Russian Ministry of Defense, civilians are still dying as the shelling of Aleppo’s districts keeps on.

The military specialist further notes that the “moderates” are ferociously bombarding their positions and are abusing the truce and the Syrian army’s nonresponse pledge.

Viktor Murakhovsky thus does not rule out the likelihood of the situation flaring once more and the ceasefire deal failing as the United States cannot “separate” the moderate resistance from the al-Nusra Front.

“The main conundrum is that people who the Americans equipped and sponsored switched sides often. Long as weapons shipments were arriving, they were under United States control. But many become fanatical Islamists after getting guns and supplies,” the analyst notes.

The professional also notes that the Americans know very little about the realities of the circumstances and the specifics of what is happening on the ground. Murakhovsky claims that the Americans will not be able to impose an order requiring them to stop fire since they lack the means to affect the Syrian military opposition. Although the United States controls the Syrian armed groups from its bases in Jordan, Iraq, and Turkey, the expert also believes that the country must be part of its movement in order to supervise this process and bring it into practical implementation.

The specialist characterizes Russia’s attitude on the Geneva Agreement in the years after its signature and execution as rightfully unsatisfied. The amount of questions aimed at the United States has since doubled, he claims.

“We are monitoring the Syrians not only through Damascus but also on the ground where our advisers operate,” the expert says closing his views. While the United States is focused on political outbiding, we can guarantee that the Syrian army follows the terms of the deal. Russia now: ( Russia now )
